Iraqi Information Minister and internet phenom Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf says he committed suicide, but we all know what a liar he is.

I couldn't believe it at first, but Mrs G pointed out that while we laughed at him most of the fabled 'Arab Street' was swallowing his stuff hook, line, and sinker. (A sizable chunk of the world press was too) This just might make them more then a little (ahem) angry at him. Knowing their (ahem) tendencies toward group-throwing of big rocks at people he may have taken what seemed to him to be the best option available. (Without ever knowing he was a true western media superstar.)

Whatever the case, Mo is/was certainly one of the most compelling stories to come out of this whole thing. Up until the tanks rolled through Baghdad he had anti-American reporters from America and around the world clinging to his every word, wanting desperately to believe his tales of utter annihilation of the enemy devils. Then after the Thunder Run he became much needed wartime comic relief, first on TV then as an internet phenomenon. Hollywood would have created him for the movie version if he hadn't shown up on his own.

All this is of course, leading nicely into Modern Media Marches to War part III, coming soon to a Mudville Gazette near you!
